Ruth Brinkley to Receive Louisville Urban League’s Champion of Diversity Award 

The Louisville Urban League will honor Ruth Brinkley, president and chief executive officer of KentuckyOne Health, with the Arthur M. Walters “Champion of Diversity Award,” the organization’s highest honor. Ruth will receive the award at the Louisville Urban League’s “2015 Mardi Gras Bash…Celebrating Diversity” on March 7 at The Henry Clay in Louisville. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the promotion of diversity within the Louisville community.

Flaget Team Celebrates Sue Downs' Recognition by Becker's Hospital Review 

Sue Downs, president of Flaget Memorial Hospital, was recognized as one of “50 Rural Hospital CEOs to Know” in Becker’s Hospital Review, a leading hospital magazine. The list contains 50 presidents, CEOs and administrators that dedicate their time to bettering health care in their communities and triumph in providing health care in rural or smaller towns. Flaget team members recently held a celebration in honor of Sue's recognition. Sue also serves as interim president of Saint Joseph Hospital.

PURLs: An Online Party for 5-Year Anniversaries 

Appreciation is an important part of the KentuckyOne culture. Our employee recognition program fosters that feeling by awarding a PURL (a personal web page) when you reach your five-year service anniversary—and every five years thereafter. Your leader will initiate the PURL, inviting co-workers and others to submit greetings to your PURL. On your anniversary you will receive a link to the PURL, where you will see the collection of messages and photos people have submitted. It’s an online celebration of your achievement!

Privacy: FairWarning Coming to Clinics and Wave 3 Cerner McKesson STAR Facilities Feb. 23 

To help safeguard the privacy of patient information, KentuckyOne Health clinics that use the Allscripts Ambulatory Electronic Health Record (AEHR) system and Physician Practice Management System (PPMS) and Wave 3 facilities that use Cerner and McKesson STAR applications will begin using FairWarning on Feb. 23

Culture Corner: Appreciation – The Ties That Bind 

Carmel Jones, chief operating officer, central and eastern market, KentuckyOne Health Medical Group, recently used the idea of an “appreciation circle” with her group of directors and managers to demonstrate the core concept of appreciation. She said, “We used pieces of ribbon all connected which formed a visual connection to remind us how important it is to stay connected and form strong relationships."

SafetyFirst Great Catch: Debbie Bowling 

Imaging Services Multimodality Technologist/Clinical Coordinator Debbie Bowling, RT(R), CT, MR, BD, AART, had started a brain MRI on a patient when she noticed that a foreign body was showing up on the first sequence of images. The tech immediately stopped the exam, assumed ownership of the situation, and acted appropriately by contacting the radiologist and the physician’s office. She ultimately got an order for a CT scan, which showed a tiny subcutaneous metallic object in the left eyelid.

On Thursday, Feb. 19, employees are invited to a celebration in honor of the new Intraoperative CT at Saint Joseph Hospital. Join us in front of the water wall in the lobby from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Enjoy demos, food, giveaways and drawings! The hospital is the first facility in Kentucky and only the tenth in the U.S. to have this advanced imaging technology within the operating room.

Support the Statewide Workplace Smoking Ban for Kentucky 

On Feb. 13, the Kentucky House passed House Bill 145, which prohibits indoor smoking in businesses, places of employment and other listed public places. This bill will now be sent to the Kentucky Senate for consideration. KentuckyOne Health is singularly focused on improving the health of Kentuckians and believes this legislation will help to reduce the health and economic impact of tobacco use in the state. Please contact your state senator and urge him/her to support the Statewide Workplace Smoking Ban.
