KentuckyOne Leaders Ruth Brinkley and Lisa Shannon Visit Saint Joseph Hospital 

KentuckyOne CEO Ruth Brinkley and COO Lisa Shannon visited Saint Joseph Hospital on Jan. 8. During their time on the campus, they toured the various departments and units, meeting with key leaders and employees, and provided a system update. They also invited Saint Joseph Hospital employees to join them for a special luncheon in the Chase Room. Ruth will be visiting other KentuckyOne facilities throughout 2015.

Empowering Nurses for Leadership 

Nurse leaders at Saint Joseph Hospital who participated in the recent Nursing Leadership Advance were given more tools to learn – and teach – leadership. The advance, led by Carol Dwyer, vice president of patient care services, included a teambuilding exercise, which asked participants three different times to work together in teams to create paper chains. Each time, the exercise changed the parameters, such as taking away materials, or without talking to others, or participants only using one hand to complete the task.

KentuckyOne and University of Louisville are “Partnering for the Health of It” 

KentuckyOne Health employees are working in partnership with the University of Louisville to help improve the health of college students on the campus. Two days a week, employees help man the KentuckyOne Health Well-being Station at the Student Recreation Center on Belknap Campus to impart important health information and offer screenings.

SafetyFirst Great Catch: Rebecca Hughes 

It was a Saturday, and a lawyer presented himself to the registration desk in the Saint Joseph Jessamine emergency department. He asked about the nurses who were working on a certain day who may have taken care of his client. Rebecca Hughes, RN, who was serving as the charge nurse, used STAR and a questioning attitude when the attorney asked for medical records. She redirected him through the proper channels. She prevented a HIPAA violation from occurring and put patient safety first.

Medical Interpreter Qualification Program Offered for Bilingual Employees  

Employees now have an opportunity to use their foreign language skills on the job to benefit our patients and families. A new comprehensive program has been developed to qualify staff fluent in a foreign language to interpret on an as-needed basis in their department and facilities. The program is being implemented by KentuckyOne Health’s Language & Cultural Services Department. The first course will be offered in Louisville on March 6, 7, 8, 14, 15

Friday, Feb. 6, is National Wear Red Day. You're invited to wear red to show your support of the fight against women’s cardiovascular disease. Deck yourselves out in red or just grab a red scarf or pair of socks. KentuckyOne will host informational tables at each of our locations to provide materials on cholesterol, exercise and other ways to have a healthy heart. Don't forget to show us how you go red. Donate Your Old Electronics, Support Those Less Fortunate 

Rather than clogging the landfill with old electronic devices, recycle them! KentuckyOne Health is partnering with Catholic Charities and Bluegrass E-Cycle to encourage employees, friends and family to bring their old household electronics to a drop-off event Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes in Louisville.
