Food and Nutrition Services to Implement Quick Charge at KentuckyOne 

Beginning today, March 2, Food and Nutrition Services is implementing the new Quick Charge application at Saint Joseph London. All other KentuckyOne facilities will begin implementation between April and June of 2015. The new technology provides Employee Payroll Deduction functionality via badge swipe in the cafeterias and in gift shops managed by the facility.

Jewish Hospital’s Sterile Processing Dept. Ranks Fourth in the World 

Jewish Hospital’s Sterile Processing Department has recently been ranked fourth in the entire world for employing triple-certified technicians. The ranking is done by the International Association of Health Care Central Service Materials Management. “Our staff is super-excited about this—and deservedly so,” according to Weston “Hank” Balch, CRCST, CIS, CHL. “This is a huge accomplishment!”

Congratulations to Corliss “Marie” Brown, CTR, cancer registry manager for KentuckyOne Health's Louisville market, who was honored at the 36th Annual YMCA Black Achievers Awards Program. Each year, the award is presented to adults who have demonstrated a willingness to serve as role models, and who have provided assistance to youth in career and personal development.

SafetyFirst Great Catch: Paige Monroe 

This week’s Great Catch took place at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. Respiratory Therapist Paige Monroe discovered that an order in Meditech for blood to be drawn listed the wrong patient. When she compared the patient information on the analyzer to the order, she noticed the error. If she had not been focused on the details of her job, blood could have been taken from the wrong person.

A Gift Knit with Love 

Every day in her home in Texas, Maxine Peterman knits three soft crocheted hats. She began this project five years ago when her daughter-in-law, Judy, was suffering from breast cancer, and she wanted to help. She sent a few hats to her son, Ted, in Louisville, to give to his wife. On Feb. 23, Mary Anne Tinnell of the Foundation helped distribute hundreds of these beautifully colored crocheted caps to the M. Krista Loyd Resource Center at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center and to patients on the University of Louisville Hospital Stem Cell Unit.

Partnership Connects Teens with Role Models at Our Lady of Peace 

Our Lady of Peace recently partnered with the Louisville Visual Arts Association (LVAA) on “Louisvillians Who Lead,” a project that pairs teens at the facility with Louisville community leaders for interaction and artwork. The teens will be photographing, interviewing and painting portraits of these leaders. The goal of the project is to encourage and empower the students to imagine themselves ascending to similarly vital roles in their community.
