New Hire RNs Must Be BSN-Prepared 

Delivering the highest quality of care depends a great deal on the caliber of a health system’s nurses. With that in mind, as of May 1, 2014, KentuckyOne Health will require that all new-hire registered nurses possess a BSN degree – or commit to completing their BSN degree within five years. This change is supported by research which shows that morbidity and mortality of patients decrease as the percentage of BSN-prepared staff increases.

A SafetyFirst Outstanding Manager is one who goes above and beyond for safety, empowering their employees to practice safe behaviors. He or she encourages and supports SafetyFirst work. KentuckyOne Employees Help 'Raise the Roof' on Habitat Home 

During March 13-15, volunteers with KentuckyOne Health and Women for Habitat kicked off the construction of a new Habitat for Humanity house in Louisville. The “raise the roof” portion of the build included constructing walls and a roof, and required more than 90 volunteers working more than 700 construction hours. Thanks to several KentuckyOne employees and family members, the project is off to a great start. The entire construction of the home will take three months to complete.

Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, Community Partners Hosted Free Drive-thru Flu Clinic 

Because of the elevated number of flu cases seen throughout December and January, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling teamed up with the Montgomery County Health Department and other community partners to offer a free drive-thru flu shot clinic this February. Flu shots were given to 165 adults and two youngsters from Montgomery and surrounding counties.

KentuckyOne Sends Supplies Overseas 

On Friday, March 14, KentuckyOne Health loaded a container of donated supplies headed to Toga, West Africa. The majority of the medical supplies and equipment in this shipment will go to a hospital that is being built in Mango — a small city in the far north of the country. Currently, people living in the area have to travel eight hours by car in order to access medical care. KentuckyOne is a Supplies Over Seas recycling partner.
