Next Steps: Performance Culture Assessment, Culture Of Safety Survey

In April, KentuckyOne Health completed the organization-wide Performance Culture Assessment, with a response from 65 percent of employees. Additionally, the Culture of Safety survey recently was completed, with a participation rate of 39 percent. Thank you for excellent participation and for your valuable feedback. 

Now that both surveys are complete, third party vendors are currently processing the data and generating reports to summarize the feedback. The information will be available this summer. Once results are received, the information will be shared through group meetings with leaders.

Your valuable feedback to both of these surveys will be vital tools in the ongoing journey to improve the culture of KentuckyOne Health. Thank you again for your support.

John Shea Named System Director of Business Development

John Shea re-joins KentuckyOne Health as system director of business development. Most recently, Shea served as interim chief executive officer of Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. In his new role, Shea will be tasked with growing KentuckyOne Health through evaluating and advancing potential partnerships and other business development initiatives across the state.

Shea has more than 30 years of experience working with health systems, including hospitals, ambulatory care and rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes and physician practices. Prior to establishing his own consulting business in 2010, he spent 17 years with the Bon Secours Health System in Maryland, rising to the position of senior vice president of business development.

Shea holds a masters degree in business administration from New Hampshire College and completed his undergraduate studies at Bentley College.

Complete Corporate Responsibility Education by May 15

To celebrate this year’s Corporate Compliance and Ethics Week, you are encouraged to complete your annual Corporate Responsibility education requirements – Our Values and Ethics at Work: 2013 Annual Training and CHI Information Privacy and Security Awareness in LEARN.

Please complete the required education before May 15. Newer employees (hired on/after July 1, 2012) will need to complete the CRP courses for new employees as listed in the “My Learning” section of LEARN. LEARN can be accessed via Inside CHI.

Note: ULH|JGBCC employees will not participate in these education requirements at this time.

Mandatory PIN Enforcement On Mobile Devices Effective Monday, May 20

Beginning Monday, May 20, the mandatory use of a PIN/Passcode for all mobile devices that access or “synchronize” with CHI Exchange/Outlook (email, calendars, contacts) is being implemented in the Louisville market. This applies to both corporate and personal devices, including iPhones, iPads, Blackberries and Android devices. Note: This does not affect ULH|JGBCC employees at this time.

New Guest Wireless Process

In an effort to make the network at University of Louisville Hospital more secure and to comply with CHI security policies, the guest wireless will now require a username and password to connect. Information concerning how to connect to the guest wireless and the current user name and password can be found at http://infostat/iss/SitePages/PublicWIFI.aspx from any computer on the hospital network.

The new guest network (guest) will be turned on in all the facilities on May 13. The old guest network (ulhlink) will be decommissioned on May 13 at MedCenter One and the Danka Building. The ulhlink network will be turned off on May 22 in the ACB, BCC, CCB, ISC and Lampton Buildings.

Project GreenPrint Update 

At Saint Joseph Martin, Project GreenPrint will begin installing new copier, printer and fax equipment on May 14. Training on the new products will be provided as they are installed. The Project GreenPrint team’s goal is to make sure all employees are comfortable printing, scanning, copying and faxing with the new devices – including using the secure print feature. At Saint Joseph London, the Project GreenPrint team presented the Findings and Recommendations report to CHI and London’s leaders. The report has been reviewed and leadership has approved the recommendations for the appropriate mix of print, copy, fax and scan equipment. Orders for new equipment will be placed shortly and we will keep you posted on the equipment implementation dates and training.

If you have high cholesterol or hypertension, there are many steps you can take to manage your disease and improve your overall health. HeartCare@Work helps you measure your progress in managing key heart risk factors – like blood pressure, weight, blood sugar and blood fats. You’ll also learn how to eat smarter and be sure you are following the directions for your prescription medicines.

This free program is now being offered to Louisville market KentuckyOne Health employees enrolled in a KentuckyOne Health medical plan and taking a prescription blood pressure medicine and/or a prescription for hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol).

James Graham Brown Cancer Center Honors Survivors

Derby Week is an exciting time for Louisvillians and visitors from around the globe; but, for cancer survivors it means celebrating something even greater – the gift of life and survivorship. 

On May 2, otherwise known to Lousivillians as Pegasus Parade Day, the James Graham Brown Cancer Center and the Kentucky Cancer Program held their annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration. And on Derby Eve, The Julep Ball helped raise funds to support the cancer center.

Saint Joseph Hospital Radiography Program Will Leave Lasting Legacy

Today, May 10, the Saint Joseph Hospital Radiography Program will end after 56 years. Since the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth first established the program, nearly 400 people have completed the 24-month training in X-ray technology and patient care. They have gone on to help countless numbers of patients across the state, across the nation, and around the world.

“It’s very sad for me,” said Sherri Napier, who trained at the school, then served as a faculty member for six years. “It’s the end of an era.”

Shannon Woods Honored with DAISY Award 

In honor of National Nurses Week, this week we will begin honoring KentuckyOne nurses who are DAISY Award winners. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s national program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. We are starting with Shannon Woods, RN, a float nurse at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. Her colleagues are grateful to work with such an excellent nurse, as the comments on her nomination forms reflect.

"Shannon’s most often-repeated words are, ‘Whatever you need me to do,’ and she really means it,” House Supervisor Jan Myers, RN, wrote. “Her patients love her because of her compassion, and they trust her because of her knowledge and self-confidence.”

Wonderful Wednesday
Employees are encouraged to wear KentuckyOne, or facility-specific, logo wear (all other applicable dress code guidelines must be followed). All KentuckyOne employees will have a chance to win door prizes featuring Kentucky products.

Wellness Thursday
All KentuckyOne employees are encouraged to commit to a healthier lifestyle by committing to increase their physical activity through Labor Day in September. The first 1,000 employees to commit to a healthier lifestyle are eligible for a pedometer.

All KentuckyOne employees are again encouraged to wear KentuckyOne, or facility-specific, logo wear (all other applicable dress code guidelines must be followed). More chances for KentuckyOne employees to enter to win door prizes featuring Kentucky products.

KentuckyOne This Week will include the Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) publication e in each issue. CHI is a sponsor of KentuckyOne and will be sharing news of interest to all employees.

Corporate Responsibility Education
Action: Complete training by May 15
It's National Corporate Compliance and Ethics Week, and the theme – "Compliance Begins with You" – reflects why workforce education is an important component of CHI's Corporate Responsibility Program (CRP). Annually, employees are required to complete one hour of compliance education, offered as web-based training courses. CRP Annual Education has been assigned to all employees hired before July 1, 2012, and is available in LEARN. There are two courses for this year's education:

• CHI Information Privacy and Security Awareness,
   due May 15
• Our Values and Ethics at Work: 2013 Annual Education,
   due May 15

Anyone who has not completed the training is encouraged to do so as soon as possible. As of April 28, just 66 percent of CHI employees had completed the training. In conjunction with the CHI Corrective Action Policy, if an employee does not complete the annual CRP education by the due date, the employee will receive a final written warning and will not be allowed to perform regular work duties until the training is completed.

LEARN has occasional downtime for maintenance and users cannot access the system at those times.

Any technical issues with the training should be reported to the LEARN team.

The May issue of Momentum, a monthly update on the Clinical and Operational Excellence (COE) strategic priority, is now available on the COE page on Inside CHI. The page also offers other COE resources and a place to sign up to have Momentum sent directly to your email inbox. Among other topics, this month’s Momentum features systemwide efforts to establish evidence-based protocols to reduce the effect of sepsis on patients and save lives.

CHI and Saint Clare's Sign Asset Purchase Agreement with Prime Healthcare Services

Saint Clare’s Health System, Denville, NJ, and CHI have signed an asset purchase agreement with Prime Healthcare Services. The signing followed the CHI Board of Stewardship Trustees' acceptance of the unanimous recommendation of the Saint Clare’s Board for CHI to sell the health system to Prime Healthcare.

Saint Clare’s Health System, Denville, NJ, and CHI have signed an asset purchase agreement with Prime Healthcare Services. The signing followed the CHI Board of Stewardship Trustees' acceptance of the unanimous recommendation of the Saint Clare’s Board for CHI to sell the health system to Prime Healthcare. 

The Saint Clare’s Board and CHI decided to seek a new owner for Saint Clare's to better meet the needs of the communities it serves in a changing health care environment. The Saint Clare’s Board recognized that as health care reform continues to evolve, it is critical for health providers to be part of a broad network of coordinated health care organizations including health providers, payers and other related health entities.

CHI and Saint Clare’s selected Prime Healthcare after a thorough evaluation of strategic alternatives and discussions with Catholic, nonprofit and for-profit health care organizations that expressed interest in Saint Clare’s.

Prime Healthcare has agreed to acquire all of Saint Clare's assets with the exception of the Saint Clare’s Foundation and intends to hire all Saint Clare’s employees. In addition, Prime Healthcare plans to continue to provide charity care services based on the existing charity care policies currently in place.

The transaction is expected to be complete by late summer or early fall subject to approvals from federal, state and Church authorities. Until the transaction closes, Saint Clare's and CHI will continue to operate the facility. After the transaction closes, Prime Healthcare will take over all hospital operations. Additional details of the asset purchase agreement are subject to the confidentiality agreement.
