Ready for Oct. 1 Launch
of Health Insurance Marketplaces?
As the Oct. 1 date for the launch of health insurance marketplaces approaches, CHI has resources and educational materials to help employees, patients and others participate in vital efforts to expand coverage in the communities we serve. All CHI facilities – including hospitals, clinics and physician offices – are encouraged to address outreach and enrollment in their communities. Strategy and activities will differ based on community needs, but this is a wonderful opportunity for every CHI organization to promote opportunities for expanded enrollment. A new document describing CHI’s approach to enrollment is now available on the CHI Outreach and Enrollment page of Inside CHI.
Conifer employees across the CHI enterprise are being trained as certified application counselors to help patients and community members select health insurance coverage that best meets their needs under the Affordable Care Act. Note that staff time and resources used to enroll patients and community members (beyond standard hospital financial assistance resources) can be reported as community benefit.
Update on Transfer of Saint Clare's
As previously reported, CHI has entered into an asset purchase agreement with Prime Health Care Services for the sale of substantially all of Saint Clare’s assets except for the Saint Clare’s Foundation. CHI and Prime Health Care expected the transaction to close this year, but New Jersey’s regulatory review process and Prime’s efforts to acquire two other New Jersey hospitals have delayed the transaction’s completion. It is now expected to close in the first half of 2014. Until then, Saint Clare’s remains part of CHI. CHI will continue to provide operational support for Saint Clare’s. Saint Clare’s employees will continue to receive benefits through CHI and will participate in the upcoming open enrollment and new benefits program.
