Along with the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA), Jewish Hospital, part of KentuckyOne Health, celebrated the “Gift of Life” on April 11 with transplant recipients and donor families. The event, held in April in conjunction with the annual National Donate Life Month, also provided education and awareness information and gave community members the opportunity to join the organ donor registry.

The event featured Christopher Jones, MD, assistant professor of transplantation surgery with University of Louisville, and Mark Slaughter, MD, executive director of cardiovascular services for the KentuckyOne Health Louisville market and chief of the division of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Louisville. Heart transplant recipient Allie Dunn shared her story at the event, which concluded with a special gift to transplant recipients and donor families.

Representatives from KODA and Trust for Life were on location assisting people in joining the organ donor registry. University of Louisville Lions Eye Bank and representatives from the National Kidney Foundation were also available with information on organ and tissue donation.
