Velinda J. Block, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, a leader with 30 years of nursing practice, has been named chief nursing officer for KentuckyOne Health. She will have overall responsibility for nursing and nursing practice across the system. She begins at KentuckyOne Nov. 11.
Most recently Velinda was chief nursing officer and senior assistant vice president at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital, a two-location, 1157-bed academic facility. Concurrently she served as assistant dean for clinical affairs with the UAB School of Nursing. Earlier in her career, she was vice president of patient care services and director of inpatient and emergency nursing for St. Louis Children’s Hospital and held various roles at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
She received a doctor of nursing practice from UAB School of Nursing, Master of Science degree in nursing administration from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and Bachelor of Science in nursing degree from the Medical College of Georgia College of Nursing.
A frequent speaker on nursing practice, Velinda is a long-time active member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Her community involvements include serving on the board of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Birmingham and the local NPR radio station, WBHM.
