Purpose Tour Captures Compassion of KentuckyOne Employees

University of Louisville Hospital

Jana Shehan, RN, left, James Graham Brown Cancer Center, talked to Sarah Bishop, RN, right, Infection Control, about why they decided to pursue health care careers during their Purpose Tour interview at University of Louisville Hospital.

Oncology nurse Melissa Pritchett does not have a side job as a wedding planner – but for one brief intense week she did just that – on behalf of a special patient dying of cancer.

“Her dying wish was to get married to her fiancé, so we made her dreams come true,” said the nurse who works on the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at University of Louisville Hospital. Melissa tells the story in one of the four short videos captured when the KentuckyOne Purpose & Values Tour stopped at the hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center in September (watch the videos below).

The tour also recently visited Saint Joseph East, Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph Martin and Saint Joseph London.

It’s all part of the Purpose & Values Tour, a systemwide celebration of the Purpose & Values that unite KentuckyOne. The tour gives employee-volunteers the chance to talk with one another about what is meaningful to them about their work.

Next on the schedule will be Oct. 18 at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, Oct. 21 at Jewish Hospital and Oct. 29 at Flaget Memorial Hospital. Mission leaders are seeking employee-volunteers to star in the short videos recorded at every stop.

Facilities are using the Purpose Tour as a springboard for planning other events and activities to focus on our commitment to “bringing wellness, healing and hope to all.”

Stay tuned to KentuckyOne Online for more stories and videos from across the state.
