Saint Joseph Hospital
The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation is grateful for supporters like Carol Dwyer, chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services at Saint Joseph Hospital, who has devoted her time, energy and heart to serving the hospital, patients and staff these past three years. Find out how Carol’s service to the hospital and community extends beyond clinical improvements, and join us for an April 27 reception in The Giving Garden at Saint Joseph Hospital.
The Power of a Philanthropic Heart
Carol has played an integral role in leading various philanthropy projects through the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, including designing the DAISY Wall to honor nurses. These nurses have been recognized by their peers as well as their patients for exemplary bedside care.
She was also a key player in creating a new green space for the hospital. In early July 2016, The Giving Garden was opened, unveiling a lower-level courtyard teeming with beautiful foliage that will serve as a respite for patients, visitors and staff alike. The Giving Garden project revitalized a long-neglected lawn space. It was spearheaded by Carol as well as Saint Joseph Hospital President Bruce Tassin and Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Board of Directors Chair Stephen Hillenmeyer.
The Giving Garden features a charming walking path and several seating areas. A vibrant blend of flowers blooms year-round. A flowering dogwood tree was planted here in honor of the hospital’s nurses. A redbud tree, azalea bushes, oak leaf hydrangeas, daylilies, irises, grasses and ground cover appeal to the senses, and a small stone fountain adds a peaceful sound to the air for those finding respite on natural boulder benches.
“The Giving Garden was named in a meaningful way to remind caregivers that we are in a sacred space,” said Carol, who retires this year. “Each one of us is privileged to serve the patients of Saint Joseph Hospital and are ‘gifted’ to extend wellness, healing and hope to all. In return, the giving comes back to us threefold.”
Carol will retire this year, but she’s leaving her mark before she goes. Join us on April 27 at 5:30 p.m. in The Giving Garden for a reception and light refreshments. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
