Information on CHI Financial Reports

Recent media reports have highlighted financial challenges of our sponsor CHI. Due to a variety of short-term factors, which many national health providers have also faced, CHI has experienced lower than expected financial performance. As a result, the national office is implementing a number of steps to reduce expenses and ensure long-term stability.

Similarly, at KentuckyOne Health we continue our focused effort to improve our financial position and invest in the employees and communities across the Commonwealth. As we work with CHI in our ongoing efforts to improve our performance, it is important to note that there are no plans for large scale workforce reductions at KentuckyOne Health. As Ruth Brinkley recently shared, KentuckyOne is on track to meet our financial improvement goals of 2015.

Thank You for Contributing to Our Workplace

We appreciate all you do to make KentuckyOne a great place to work and serve our communities. You can share your gratitude with co-workers, too, through the online employee recognition program. In November we focused on appreciating others and moved to a weekly drawing for points. Click here for the list of Week 3 recipients. Now we’re back to monthly drawings — your name is entered each time you give or receive peer-to-peer recognition. Who deserves kudos for something today? Log in here to share your appreciation.

SafetyFirst Great Catch: Sonya Gray

This week’s Great Catch took place at Saint Joseph London. A patient who had undergone an outpatient surgical procedure left behind her discharge papers and a prescription for pain medication. Sonya Gray, RN, found them and knew that the patient would probably need her pain medication. She also knew that, because of new state laws, the pain medication could not be called in to a pharmacy. The patient would need to have the paper prescription in order to get the medication.

After calling the patient, who reported being in a good deal of pain, and after her shift, Sonya hand-delivered the prescription to the patient's home.

SafetyFirst Focus: STAR

When you have an important decision to make, or a problem to solve, using the STAR technique can help: Stop, Think, Act and Review. It is especially helpful to use when you are distracted or tired, when you are running behind and feel pressured to work fast, or when you are about to do a high-risk procedure or patient intervention.
