Benefits Annual Enrollment Opens Oct. 31 

As you’re getting ready for Halloween, please remember this Friday also begins our annual enrollment period for 2015 employee benefits. You should have received enrollment information by mail. Additional information also is available in the annual enrollment section of the My Healthy Spirit page through InsideCHI (click here). Changes for 2015 include expanded dependent eligibility and a switch to Caremark as the prescription drug administrator. Enrollment takes place through the My Healthy Spirit website Oct. 31 to Nov. 14

Two-factor Authentication Required for Remote Access to Citrix Applications 

Two-factor authentication will be back up and running on Nov. 10, 2014, for already-enrolled users who access Citrix applications remotely. CHI is adding two-factor authentication as an extra layer of security to help keep our patients, employees and clinical staff safe from cybercrime. The process requires two factors to verify your identity before you can access the system; for more information, visit the CHI Secure Access page of Inside CHI. 

Enrollment for remote access to Citrix applications will be required for all users as of Dec. 8. After Dec. 8, users will not be able to access the Citrix page remotely unless they are enrolled. To ask questions or request technical assistance, please contact the ITS Service Desk.

Kentucky Nurses Must Renew Licenses 

All Kentucky nurses – RNs, LPNs, APRNs and SANEs – must renew their licenses with the Kentucky Board of Nursing by Oct. 31. Nurses can complete the renewal process online at Nurses who do not renew their license and submit the required documentation before the Oct. 31 midnight deadline will have to reinstate their license as it will lapse. Remember, all nurses must validate the continuing education (CE)/competency requirement every year to renew their nursing license.

SafetyFirst Great Catch: Bethany Austin 

Bethany Austin, RN, was about to give a rabies vaccination to a patient in the Saint Joseph Jessamine ED. It was to be his second in a series of shots. In the medicine room, the nurse took a very close look at the vial of medication. “I had never given rabies vaccine, so that’s why I was checking,” Bethany said. “I had the drug book out, and I was comparing it to the vial. That’s when I noticed it was the wrong medicine.” Bethany reported the error to her unit manager and the pharmacy was called. A pharmacist confirmed what Bethany already knew: The vial that had been supplied for the patient contained the wrong medicine.

Pink-a-BOO! Wear Pink on Oct. 31 in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness 

KentuckyOne Health facilities will trade in the traditional Halloween orange for pink on Friday, Oct. 31, for breast cancer awareness. Employees are encouraged to wear pink! We will host Pink-a-BOO events at all of our facilities to encourage employees and guests to schedule their annual digital mammogram. An information area with giveaways will be at each facility from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ("read more" to see details). Plus, there will be an opportunity to win prizes!

The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation is hosting a press conference and open house on Wednesday, Oct. 29, to unveil the expansion and renovation of KentuckyOne Health Breast Care at Saint Joseph East. Join us as we celebrate the expansion, which includes 3D mammography made possible by our generous donors. Refreshments and tours will be available. KentuckyOne President and Chief Executive Officer Ruth Brinkley will be speaking at the press conference/ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m.; an employee open house will follow from 2 to 4 p.m.
