As we continue our discussions with University of Louisville and BlueMountain Capital Management, I am pleased to provide an update on the progress that continues to be made in order to secure a successful future for KentuckyOne Health Louisville Region operations.
I recently had the privilege of attending the regular meeting for KentuckyOne Health Medical Group, led by Dr. Ron Waldridge. I was able to meet several providers and medical group employees. In addition to myself, Rica Lewis-Paton, Interim CEO at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital was introduced to the group.
The guest speaker for the meeting was Tom Miller, the new CEO for UofL Health, which is still in the integration process, and includes University of Louisville Hospital, James Graham Brown Cancer Center and University of Louisville Physicians.
Tom provided an update on UofL’s ongoing discussions with CHI/KentuckyOne, and answered questions from those in attendance. During the conversation, Tom shared that UofL’s vision includes significant investment into the facilities and operations in the Louisville region, as well as further integration of the downtown campus. Tom also shared that his vision for the medical staff includes the flexibility to remain a private, community physician as well as the ability to participate in research and/or become a faculty physician.
Finally, Tom shared that UofL will soon release an RFP (request for proposal) in order to identify a financial and operating partner if an agreement is reached for the acquisition of KentuckyOne Health Louisville Region. The partner would enhance UofL’s ability to invest in needed improvements across the Louisville region.
The meeting was well received, and several providers shared that they appreciated the information and ability to talk with a leader from UofL who is involved in the ongoing negotiations. Mark Parrington from the CHI national office transaction team was also available to respond to the provider’s questions. As always, I will continue to keep you informed of significant milestones or discussions such as this recent meeting.
I would also like to provide a brief update on our progress for the Living Our Mission Measures, which is how we continue to monitor our progress in the areas of quality, safety and patient experience, among other measures. Jewish Hospital’s quality scores continue to show improvement since the start of fiscal year 2019, while safety and hospital acquired infections show a substantial 20-point improvement due to diligent focus on these measures. Jewish Hospital Shelbyville’s quality and patient experience scores reflect improvement in the last seven months, while safety and hospital acquired infection measures remain stable. At Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, quality scores are stable with slight improvement in the latter part of the year, while safety and hospital acquired infection measures remain stable. For all facilities, we also need to remain focused on improving our patient experience scores.
