Dr. Shea Recognized for Outstanding Contributions

For over 30 years, University of Louisville Football fans saw a familiar face on the sidelines taking care of athletes – Dr. Raymond Shea. Dr. Shea and the Shea Orthopedic Group, part of KentuckyOne Health Orthopedic Associates had been providing sports medicine services to University of Louisville sports teams for three decades. In recognition of his years of service to UofL Athletics and with the announcement of his recent retirement from surgery (he will continue to see patients in the office), the surgical services and orthopedic care teams at Jewish Hospital hosted a luncheon in his honor last Tuesday.

An undergraduate of the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Shea completed medical school at New York Medical College and then did both internships and residency at the University of Michigan before serving as a surgeon with the U.S. Army at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, KY. A practicing orthopedic surgeon since 1974, Dr. Shea has served as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1978. He brought his vast orthopedic expertise to Jewish Hospital in 1998, and his physician leadership laid the foundation for the creation of the organization’s elite Sports Medicine program in 1999.

Congratulations to Dr. Shea for your leadership, vision and on being such an outstanding physician ambassador for our organization!
